The manufacturing process of PVC pipes

0

The PVC pipes are made of the material called polyvinyl chloride, this is the very strong and the durable plastic-like substance which has been highly used. The PVC pipes which are used from this material are used for various applications that start from the plumbing to the construction. These pipe types are manufactured worldwide, most of the pipes are designed for the specific requirements that are to ensure the multiple pipe sections will fit together. This pipe may have ended like smooth or grooved. The pipe sizes are ranging in different sizes from the very small to large ones.

For what the PVC pipes are used?

The PVC pipe is very commonly used for manufacturing sewage pipes, water mains, and irrigation. The PVC pipes have long-lasting properties and they are very easy to install, lightweight, strong, durable and that can be easily recyclable. This property makes them cost-efficient and sustainable. The smooth surface of the PVC pipes encourages the faster flow that is due to their lower friction than the other pipes made from the variety of materials like the cast iron or concrete. These pipes are manufactured in varying lengths, wall thicknesses, and diameters based on the international sizing standards.

How did they make?

The PVC pipe and fittings are manufactured from the extrusion of the raw materials of PVC and they usually involve these steps;

  • Feeding the raw material powders into the PVC screw extruder
  • Melting and heating process is done in multiple extruder zones
  • Extruding done through a die that is to shape the inside of the pipe
  • The shaped pipe is then cooled
  • Then based on the desired length the PVC pipe has been cut

Most of the plastic pipes will have a similar manufacturing process, the PVC pipe and fittings will have the intrinsic characteristics that will be additional challenges to the pipe manufacturers.

Quality control

The PVC pipes are manufactured by the so many housing and commercial construction applications, each pipe must undergo the quality control, here the pipe quality should be ensured after various testing. During the quality control of the pipes, they also tested for their seal, connection and strength. The seal test will be conducted by adding the specific type of cement to the pipe and allowing it to dry. Once these tests are completed next it will be taken to the fluid testing, the series of liquids will be allowed to pass through the pipe at very high pressure. This step is carried out to check whether there is a leak and to remove the deposit of the cement inside the pipes if there is no leak in the pipe it will be taken to reconsideration. The last test is used to check the strength of the PVC pipes and the tests will be completed by using the several presses with the high weight components if it holds those pressure. It is sent for the packaging and shipping process.

Final words

These are all the things that usually done in the manufacturing process of the PVC pipes and later PVC pipes are used for various purposes based on the customer’s need.
